Montrose manager Stewart Petrie believes he has found the final piece of his attacking jigsaw with the signing of Russell McLean.
The 20-year-old has joined the Gable Endies from Peterhead on a short-term contract until the end of the season.
Boss Petrie was delighted to get McLean in and the former Hearts player will be considered for a quick debut today when Brechin visit Links Park for the latest Angus derby of the League One campaign.
The gaffer said: “I am really pleased to have signed Russell and he can be a really important player for us between now and the end of the season.
“I have always felt that we were just one player short in that forward area so he makes it complete.
“It is a great one for us to get done because Russell has been an excellent player for Peterhead.
“It is great that the club is backing the team like this.”
Montrose are looking to get back to winning ways after recent defeats to East Fife and Dundee United, as well as a draw away to Dumbarton.
Petrie, however, thought the point against the Sons was one gained after Martin Rennie’s late penalty earned a 1-1 share of the spoils.
The Gable Endies boss said: “I was disappointed with our first-half display because there wasn’t our usual rhythm or passing game.
“I thought we dominated the second half, though and had three or four really good chances before we finally got our goal.
“The players never gave up and that is to their credit.
“We will need that same character and determination when we play Brechin because Barry (City manager Smith) is starting to turn them around and they got a great result last weekend against Raith.
“We will be ready, though, and derby matches are always one to look forward to.”
