Brechin boss Barry Smith admits that while he would like his players to start turning draws into wins, the most important thing is that they continue to pick up points.
The Angus side make the long journey to Stranraer tonight after the original scheduled fixture between the clubs was postponed in December due to a waterlogged Stair Park pitch.
Stevie Farrell’s side currently sit one point ahead of Brechin who are second bottom of the table just ahead of Stenhousemuir who picked up a shock win at the home of runaway league leaders Arbroath on Saturday.
At the same time, Smith’s men were securing their third successive draw against high-flying Forfar, taking a 2-0 lead only to be pegged back.
Now, the Glebe gaffer is hoping his players can go one step further at Stranraer as the season edges to a potentially-nail-biting conclusion at the foot of the table.
Smith said: “Against Forfar, the positives were that we were very good in the first half.
“We gave them a lifeline by conceding that goal so late in the first half but up until then, the boys had played very well, passing the ball about and getting two goals in front.
“So it was frustrating that we couldn’t keep the two-goal lead going into half-time but when we look back we have just held third and fourth (East Fife) place to draws.
“We have to look at that as a positive.
“There are nine games to go so we just have to concentrate on ourselves and picking points up.
“We want to get wins more than draws but as long as we keep picking points up that is the main thing.”
A midweek trip to Stranraer presents logistical problems with players needing to get time off work but Smith will not accept any excuses and insists his team will be well prepared for what lies ahead of them.
Smith added: “It is the same for both teams.
“A lot of the Stranraer players are based in Glasgow so we are not going to make any excuses – it is what it is.
“We need to have the right mentality going down there to get a win.
“It is an important game in terms of where we are in the league at the moment.
“But as I said there are still nine matches to go.”
Brechin will be without the injured Dene Shields, Callum Tapping and Jordan Sinclair while Dougie Hill is doubtful after picking up a knock on Saturday.
