Averting a title party isn’t Jim Weir’s Station Park priority this afternoon, with securing a win to take them a step closer to the promotion play-offs the Forfar focus in the Angus derby against Arbroath.
If the Red Lichties triumph and Raith Rovers lose to East Fife, the League One championship will be clinched by Dick Campbell’s men.
“Spoiling things for them isn’t what we’re thinking about,” said Weir.
“Our aim is to get another three points to cement our place in the top four and to keep challenging for second.
“That’s what is important to us.”
There was a rare defeat for Forfar last week and it was out of character for the 2019 Loons.
“We just didn’t get going at Airdrie,” said Weir.
“Too many players were below their best.
“We gave the ball away cheaply, which isn’t like us and didn’t create enough.
“It was an off day – the sort of performance we threw in earlier in the season. We can’t afford something similar if we’re going to beat Arbroath.”
Weir added: “Our form since the turn of the year has been as good as anybody in this league.
“We’ve bounced back from defeats in the past and hopefully that will be the case again tomorrow and we’ll get back to winning ways.
“We don’t want to be going into the last couple of games looking for points to secure a play-off place.”
Dale Hilson, Adam Eckersley and Cedwyn Scott are all injury doubts.
It is highly likely that Arbroath will be crowned champions in Angus.
If it doesn’t happen today, they’ve got Montrose and Brechin in their next two matches.
Geography doesn’t matter to Campbell, though.
“It could be won tomorrow but we can’t control anything other than our own performance,” said the Gayfield boss.
“Obviously we would like to do it as soon as we can but it wouldn’t bother me whether it was at Forfar, Stranraer or anywhere else.
“The fact that we’re playing Forfar isn’t significant. I’ve got nothing to prove there and I don’t have an axe to grind.
“They’re a good team and we know we’ll be in for a tough game.
“They’re the only Angus side to beat us this season. Local derbies have been good to us.”
With Danny Denholm available, Campbell has a fully fit squad and has already told his players the starting line-up.
