East Fife manager Darren Young has grown increasingly annoyed as the Methil men’s push for promotion via the play-offs has turned into a chase to catch fourth-placed Montrose.
Young has demanded a rousing performance at Stenhousemuir this afternoon.
The Gable Endies sit five points clear but Young will not concede anything and has asked his players to play with ice in their veins in their last two games and hope that Forfar and Raith Rovers can do them a favour.
Young said: “I am not happy that we have slipped in the promotion chase, the players are not happy and everyone else at the club is not happy, but no one is giving anything up.
“We have played better in this quarter than the points tally would suggest but we simply have not been ruthless enough in either defence or attack.
“That has led to us drawing games we should have won and losing games we should have drawn.
“Last week’s game at Dumbarton is the perfect example of how we have let ourselves down.
“For the first 20 minutes we were on top. We had created a couple of chances and had a soft penalty claim turned down.
“We should have been ahead but we lost a goal, at which I counted three mistakes.
“It is fine margins as if we had scored and defended clinically then we would have been the team in front.
“Dom Thomas hit a wonder goal before the break and then Chris Higgins made a mistake that allowed Calum Gallagher in to score their third.”
Young added: “We need the players to be icy cool. We need them to remain calm when presented with opportunities in front of goal and also to clear their lines without thought.”
“I do not want us to be in the position where we do not win and then find out we could have made up ground.
“Stenhousemuir have plenty to play for as well as they will want to get to second bottom place and avoid relegation.
“Both teams will go for it and hopefully we can get the win and come off to learn that Montrose have dropped points.”
Scott Linton remains out injured and Darryl Meggatt is also expected to be unavailable.
