Stewart Petrie insists that no-one at Montrose will be resting on their laurels despite the air of positivity surrounding the club at the moment.
The Gable Endies defied the odds this season after coming up from League 2 to end the campaign in the Championship promotion play-offs.
They may have lost out to Queen of the South over the two legs but it was still a hugely successful year for the Angus club as shown by a 25% rise in attendances at Links Park compared to the previous season.
However, Petrie is determined to continue pushing the club on with the memory of the nerve-shredding pyramid play-off against Brora from four years ago a constant reminder of how close Montrose came to going out of the SPFL altogether.
The manager said: “I think we had the third highest attendance in the league this season.
“That was behind Arbroath who have a good following anyway and were top of the league the whole season.
“That tells you something about our club and the fans. The town has certainly got behind the lads which is great for me and the board.
“It shows the work they are doing on and off the park as well. The work in the community is outstanding so yes, it is a happy place to be at the moment.
“Saying that, we’re not going to get complacent because if you rest on your laurels, all of a sudden you can see yourself staring down the barrel again as the club was a few years ago.
“So we will certainly try to push them on next season.
“We will try to bring in players that will improve us as we need to keep moving forward, there is no doubt about that.”
Petrie admitted there will not be wholesale changes to his roster with the majority of the squad who have done so well over the past two seasons retained with just a few new additions.
He added: “First and foremost we are trying to finalise all the boys from last season and then we will go from there.
“We are not looking for a lot, probably three players.
“Everyone will get their chance pre-season in the Betfred and then we will look at the squad again at the end of that.
“We will have had seven games by then so we will assess things.
“We have until the end of September to bring loan players in so there is no rush.
“I keep saying it but they need to be the right character to bring into the club.
“We will certainly be doing our due diligence to add the right lads in the positions we are looking to fill.”
