Matt Phillips believes he can fill the Scotland striker’s vacancy.
The West Bromwich Albion man is better known as a wide player but with no Leigh Griffiths in the squad and controversy surrounding Oli McBurnie, he might be an option up front.
The Scots face huge Hamden games against Russia on Friday and Belgium on Monday, with goals needed to get the results that would keep their hopes of qualifying for Euro 2020 alive.
Phillips is ready to step forward if need be.
“I can definitely do that,” said the man grabbed his only goal for his country against Hungary in a 1-0 friendly win in March 2018.
“The number nine position is the one where I’ve not played as much as the others but it is one I enjoyed.
“I got my first goal for Scotland playing in that role and I enjoyed that.
“It will be down to where the manager sees fit to play me.
“These are obviously two crucial games.
“Both are at home so we have to go in with plenty of confidence and everyone giving 100%.
“We will try and get the results we need.
“These are matches where we can get points and then we can look and see where we are placed.
“You never what can happen in football. Other results can go our way so we just have to put in two good performances.”
