One down – four to go.
Prior to Saturday’s game with Partick Thistle, Dundee boss Paul Hartley had challenged his players to make up for the disappointment of missing out on the top six this season by winning all five of their remaining games.
Part one of that mission was successfully accomplished in Glasgow thanks to a Kane Hemmings’ double that took his tally for the season to 25.
Not for the first time, the manager was asked if he was worried other clubs might come in for the prolific striker and another prize asset Greg Stewart.
Hartley admitted it was a concern but the situation was something that was outwith his control as he could do nothing to stop speculation.
Certainly, any striker who scores the amount of goals Hemmings has for a mid-table side will have attracted interest from elsewhere while Rangers have been repeatedly linked with a summer raid for Stewart, who only has a year left on his contract at Dens.
Hopefully, the Dundee owners will fight tooth and nail to keep the duo. I am fully aware that money talks but I have a feeling that the best is yet to come from this Dark Blues side.
Last summer saw another major overhaul of the playing staff but this time round it should be a fairly settled squad that prepares for next season.
Future success would definitely be more assured if the names of Stewart and Hemmings were still on the roster when the new campaign kicks off.
