Yordi Teijsse’s former coach believes he will be a big success at Dundee

New Dundee signing Yordi Teijsse has been tipped to be a big success by the coach at his former club in Holland.

The 23-year-old was snapped up by Dens boss Paul Hartley on a two-year deal on Monday after an impressive season for Dutch amateur side Quick Boys.

The coach of that team, Jan Zoutman, admitted he was sorry to see Teijsse leave after he netted 31 times in the last campaign.

However, he is sure that once the player adapts to the physical demands of Scottish football, he will make a big impact for the Dark Blues.

Zoutman said: “Moving to Dundee is a fantastic opportunity for Yordi and I believe he will do well in Scotland.

“Obviously we are sad to lose him because he has scored a lot of goals but he’s ready to take the next step in his career.

“We knew there were clubs in Holland looking at him but we didn’t hear about Dundee’s interest until just recently.

“They have clearly seen what we have in him, he’s strong, he can finish and he has a fantastic attitude.

“It will take him time to go from being an amateur to playing full-time football and the club will have to look after him.

“But when he gets used to playing at that level, he will make an impact.

“The training shouldn’t be too much of a problem because he’s trained with FC Utrecht in the past and is the kind of player who trains every day anyway.

“So that won’t be too big a step up for him but he will have to get used to the physical side of playing in Scotland.

“It will be a new style of football for him and that will be something he needs to adapt to.

“But he’s willing to learn and has a lot of natural ability so I believe he will be a success.”

Zoutman also revealed the sort of qualities Teijsse will bring to Dundee.

He added: “He is very good in front of goal and has a lot of ability when it comes to finishing.

“When he has his back to goal he’s strong but I think he’ll want to improve on that side of his game.

“Yordi can also score free-kicks, he has had a few of them from 20 or 30 metres for us so that is another asset he’s got.

“Everyone is delighted for him getting this move and I’m sure we will all be looking out for Dundee’s results at the weekend to see how he’s getting on.

“He is a very popular player here and hopefully I will get the opportunity to come over to Scotland and watch him play once he’s settled in.”
