Dundee have received a big boost after one of the club’s prize assets, Craig Wighton, put pen to paper on a new deal.
The 18-year-old, who wrote himself into Dark Blues’ folklore when he scored the dramatic late winner that ensured local rivals Dundee United were relegated at Dens back in May, has signed a contract that will keep him at the club at least until the end of the 2018/19 season.
Wighton, who is a lifelong Dundee fan, had a spell at Raith Rovers last season before returning to make his mark with his parent club.
He went on to make 15 appearances for the Dark Blues and established himself in boss Paul Hartley’s starting XI, with the manager commenting: “I am delighted that Craig has signed his new deal. We are looking forward to the continuation of his development over the next three years.”
Dundee Managing Director John Nelms added: “It’s a credit to Craig and the faith that he has had in the development plan set out for him.
“He’s put in the hard work and dedication and now fully deserves a long future as a professional footballer.”
