While new Dundee signing Yordi Teijsse has arrived straight from amateur football in Holland, Dens boss Paul Hartley has revealed the striker more than measured up when the Dark Blues returned for pre-season training this week.
The manager admitted he had been impressed with the 23-year-old’s performance in fitness tests.
That was due in no small part to the player’s former daytime job as a personal trainer and Hartley is now looking for Teijsse to make a big impact once he has become attuned to the game in this country.
Hartley said: “Yordi got on really well with his fitness tests.
“He’s naturally fit and is in good condition.
“I think football has changed these days in terms of players coming back fit.
“They don’t get as much time off so the condition of players is excellent.
“Yordi was also a personal trainer.
“He’s a big lad with a good frame about him and he takes the ball in well.
“He’ll need a little bit of time to adjust in terms of how we play.
“But over the last couple of days, he’s fitted in well.
“It’s all new to him but I think with Yordi coming from Holland – even though it’s part-time – he’ll be fine.
“We’ve seen with boys like Scott Bain and Greg Stewart they’ve adjusted quite easily.”
