James Vincent hoping for silverware success with new club Dundee

James Vincent.

James Vincent admits that while he left Inverness to pursue a new challenge with Dundee, he would like nothing better than to replicate the silverware success he had with his former club.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who spent three years with the Highland side after joining from Kidderminster Harriers, wrote himself into Caley folklore when he came off the bench to score the winner in the 2015 Scottish Cup final against Falkirk.

Now, as he prepares to launch his career in a Dark Blue jersey when Paul Hartley’s side travel to face Championship outfit Dumbarton in a pre-season friendly tonight, Vincent is determined to try to help his new side end their long trophy drought.

He said: “It has been a long time coming as I signed a pre-contract with Dundee during the season. I am happy to be here and to get going.

“I am a hard-working player. I like to think I am good on the ball and I try to keep it moving. I will also add a bit of energy and look to chip in with a few goals.

“I didn’t get the return I felt I should have with Inverness. I now feel a new challenge with Dundee will bring out the best in me.

“They are a good group and team so hopefully we can be good for each other.”

He added: “I got to a couple of finals with Inverness and there is nothing like playing in finals.

“They are the type of games that are special and mean something to you.

“I don’t see why Dundee can’t be aiming for something similar. We have the players and the manager to gear up for something towards that.

“The fan base has always been brilliant here. The atmosphere is good and I am looking forward to playing at Dens.

“They deserve success and I will do all I can, as will the team, to try to deliver.”

Vincent admitted there had been interest in him from elsewhere last season but he insisted that when he discovered the Dark Blues were keen on him, there was only one place he was going to.

He said: “When I spoke to my agent and I found out about Dundee, that nullified anything else.

“I just wanted to get things sorted and to be here.

“From the moment I spoke to the manager, I knew he wanted me. He seems a good manager and I like the way Dundee play football.

“He has impressed me and I am sure that can bring out the best in me.

“If I can stay fit, then I don’t see why I can’t come here and do really well.

“I had long spells at Inverness in the team when I was fit.

“It was injuries that hampered me and stopped me from progressing to where I need to get to.”

Tonight’s game against Dumbarton at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium kicks off at 7.30pm.
