Dundee 6 Dumbarton 2: Greg Stewart back with a bang and a hat-trick
ByRoss Alexander
Dundee manager Paul Hartley said pre-match that he was worried about bids coming in for Greg Stewart, and he’ll be even more concerned after his star striker’s hat-trick in a 6-2 win over Dumbarton.
Stewart, back in the side after a hip injury, helped the Dens Park team to their first win in the Betfred Cup.
He opened the scoring early on with a free-kick, but it was cancelled out shortly after by ex-St Johnstone veteran Frazer Wright.
The Championship side then took the lead through Gregor Buchanan and actually went into the break a goal up.
Hartley’s half-time team talk had the desired effect, though, with Dundee upping their game and levelling within two minutes of the re-start as Kane Hemmings finished off a slick move.
A Darren O’Dea header made it three and then Stewart got his hat-trick with goals four and five.
Hemmings finished the job off a few minutes before full-time with a side-foot finish.
