Andy Dales joins Dundee but another signing needed after Andrew Davies blow

Jim McIntyre was boosting his Dundee squad with the arrival of English winger Andy Dales yesterday but is set to resume his search for a centre-half after injury fears over another new signing Andrew Davies was confirmed.

Twenty-four-year-old Dales was due at Dens for training yesterday morning after the Dark Blues agreed a deal with Scunthorpe.

The former Derby kid can play on either flank and also in a central role.

After 10 years in the youth ranks at the Rams, Dales stepped down to non-league football before moving to Scunthorpe last summer. He’s made 25 appearances for them, scoring two goals.

“We have agreed a deal to sign Andy Dales from Scunthorpe. He is a winger who can play on both sides, so he’ll come here and add competition for places,” Jim said.

The good news over his signing, however, has been tempered by confirmation Davies has broken a metatarsal and faces an operation and two months rehab before he can make his debut.

The 34-year-old was hurt in a bounce game against St Johnstone on Saturday and a scan late yesterday revealed the extent of the damage.

“There was no-one near him and he felt something pop in his foot, so that’s never a good sign when a player says that.

“Unfortunately the X-rays have shown up that Andrew has broken his metatarsal and will need an operation. That will happen later this week and we are looking at eight weeks out.

“I will have to look at things and it’s likely we’ll have to bring someone else in now.”

Dan Jefferies has returned from his loan spell at Partick Thistle but there are no plans to cut short the loans of James Vincent or Faissal El Bakhtaoui at Dunfermline.
