Ayr United issue deadline day statement on Lawrence Shankland amid Dundee rumours

Any hopes Dundee had of making a late bid to land Ayr United goal-getter Lawrence Shankland appear to have been dashed.

Earlier this month the Dark Blues failed with two bids to land the 23-year-old.

Shankland then, of course, proceeded to show why he was sought after by Neil McCann by scoring a double as the Honest Men dumped Dundee out of the Betfred Cup with a stunning 3-0 win at Dens Park just under a fortnight ago.

Ayr’s Lawrence Shankland celebrates after scoring against Dundee in the Betfred Cup.

And despite veteran former Scotland star Kenny Miller being fixed up on a two-year deal yesterday, rumours of another attempt to get Shankland have persisted.

It seems they were not without foundation and today Ayr boss Ian McCall issued a statement revealing his club had turned down fresh offers for the former Aberdeen kid.

He’s made clear Ayr have no interest in selling and that’s a stance backed by the player.

”I would like to place on record my thanks to the Chairman, our board of directors and Lawrence Shankland,” said McCall in a release on his club’s official website.

“Over the last couple of days we have received several more bids for Lawrence however those bids were rejected and Lawrence at no point had any interest in leaving this club.

“I am sure all our fans know that if Lawrence continues performing the way he has that he will be moving on at the end of the season and if that is the case he will go with the absolute best wishes of everyone at the club.”

If late Dens arrivals look unlikely, the same goes for departures. Rangers have been watching Glen Kamara but a bid is unlikely.
