Dundee’s pre-season build up continued with a narrow, but deserved, victory over Cowdenbeath at Central Park.
The Dark Blues came out on top thanks to a second half strike from sub Matty Henvey.
After a quiet start that saw the only real threat of a goal coming from a long range effort by home midfielder Blair Malcolm, that in the end was comfortably held by Jack Hamilton, the Dark Blues exerted some pressure.
Jean Mendy, who scored in the draw at Brechin on Friday night, broke into the box from the left, but saw his shot blocked.
Then another of the summer signings, Elton Ngwatala, was not too far away with a shot from 25 yards. He went close again in the 24 minute with a low drive from the edge of the area that was well held by Ryan Goodfellow in the Cowden goal.
The new men were impressing and just before the half hour mark another of them, Nathan Ralph, headed inches wide from a Randy Wolters corner.
As Dundee continued to look for the opener a Wolters effort was smothered by Goodfellow and when the Dutchman had another go a couple of minutes later, it was charged down by Bryan Gilfillan.
Neil McCann’s men kept the pressure up as the game move into the second half, but were finding the home defence in stubborn mood.
Having made a single change at the break, Elliott Parish replacing Jack Hamilton in goal, by the hour mark another nine Dee changes had come as the manager made sure as many of his squad as possible again got game time.
In the 63rd minute Dundee almost when behind when Kris Renton ran clear, but his shot was well saved by Parish.
The visitors were soon back on the attack and went ahead on 73 minutes when Henvey calmly lobbed Goodfellow after being sent clear by Lewis Spence.
Three minutes later the young striker went close again, but in the end Dundee had to be content with a single goal win.
