Dundee club captain James McPake’s near two-year injury could soon be over after he was given the green light to resume full training.
The 33-year-old has been out since suffering serious knee damage while tackling Dundee United’s John Rankin in the 2016 New Year derby at Dens Park.
Since then, he’s had several operations and suffered a string of setbacks but kept working hard to save his career.
That appears to have paid off and, following his latest visit to a specialist in London, he’s been told he can move from the gym and running track to the training field.
McPake tweeted: “Got the all-clear to get out on the pitch and start the real work now. Boots on tomorrow for the first time in a while.”
Having been sidelined for so long, even if everything goes smoothly from now on, it looks likely to be the New Year before he will be match fit and challenging for a first-team place again.
