Dundee boss Neil McCann has added to his defensive options by signing Wigan defender Jack Hendry.
The 22-year-old former Partick Thistle kid has penned a two-year deal at Dens Park.
With James McPake and Julen Etxabegueren both still on the long-term injury list, the Dark Blues have looked short when it comes to centre-backs.
Hendry’s arrival would appear to put a question mark over Dutch trialist Crescendo van Berkel.
The Telstar defender played in the middle of the rearguard for most of Tuesday night’s win at St Mirren.
And along with fellow trialists Nils Rutten and Glen Kamara, he’s scheduled to get another run out in Saturday’s second build-up game against Arbroath.
Van Berkel can also operate at full-back and has also played in midfield and it could be he is used there against the Lichties down at Gayfield.
New club captain Darren O’Dea scored twice in the friendly win at St Mirren on Tuesday night but the only other first-team man for that position, Kosta Gadzhalov, was absent.
That’s why the manager has moved to bring Hendry in.
He’s spent the last two years in England after being snapped up by the Latics when he’d made just four top-team appearances for Partick.
And during his time as a member of the Development squad at Firhill, he was tracked by a number of Premiership clubs down south, including Everton.
His time at Wigan saw him farmed out to get first-team experience with Shewsbury Town and then MK Dons.
Hendry won’t be the last summer signing and a goalkeeper could be next.
