Dundee proved no match for a slick home side as Aberdeen ran out comfortable winners at Pittodrie.
First half strikes from Ryan Jack and Niall McGinn put the Dons in control and when McGinn struck again late on it secured a fifth win in a row for Derek McInnes’s team.
Dundee did start brightly and a Cammy Kerr cross from the left saw Marcus Haber’s close-range shot well saved by Joe Lewis.
They went close again in the ninth minute when a dipping Paul McGowan shot struck the bar.
Then the Dons came to life and in quick succession Mark Reynolds had a shot blocked by Mark O’Hara, a cross-cum-shot from Johnny Hayes hit the post and a 20-yard effort from McGinn was well saved.
Dundee were still looking to attack and they were denied what looked a good goal in the 21st minute.
A Kerr cross was headed on by Haber and Craig Wighton swept the ball home from around sixteen yards. The linesman’s flag was up for offside against Haber so it didn’t count, but TV replays suggested the Canadian was not off.
The pain of that decision mounted when home skipper Jack headed the opener from a McGinn cross in the 29th minute.
A second goal nearly came before half time and only a fine Scott Bain stop denied Kenny McLean after he’d been set up by an Adam Rooney flick.
Almost on the stroke of the interval it was 2-0 when McGinn brilliantly fired home off the inside of the post from 25 yards.
The home team were playing fine stuff and that two goal cushion allowed them to relax and remain in control during the second half.
As they pressed for more goals McLean and Rooney went close and a Hayes free kick was just too far in front on McGinn.
When Hayes broke down the left in the 80th minute and cross, this time McGinn was perfectly placed and head home number three.
