BLETHER: No Dee changes after Motherwell demolition

BLETHER: No Dee changes after Motherwell demolition

James Scott, of Monifieth, phoned to say he enjoys our look back at the old Sporting Post queries page.

“I remember being at that amazing 6-0 win over Motherwell,” he said.

“Manager Bobby Ancell brought in all these young boys and they all played at the top of their game.

“Motherwell didn’t know what hit them.

“What I can’t remember, though, is if manager Bobby Ancell made wholesale changes for the next game.”

Ancell kept the same team for the visit to Falkirk three days later, also in the League Cup, and they won 3-1 with goals from Penman, Waddell and Cousin.

Bobby Seith then returned to the side for the visit of Aberdeen in place of Phillips, which yielded a 3-1 victory (Penman 2, Stuart).

The team was unchanged for the short hop across the road to meet Dundee United at Tannadice, and the Dee won 4-1 (Scott 2, Cousin, Waddell).

Doug Houston then replaced Seith (Kenny Cameron also replacing Scott) the following week for the 4-1 home success over Rangers (Robertson 2, Stuart, Cousin).

Various bits of other tinkering with the line-up saw the team then lose their next five league games.
