Dundee are set to follow city neighbours Dundee United’s lead and go Dutch.
The Tele understands the Dark Blues are handing a trial to full-back Jens Janse.
The 30-year-old can play right across the back four and in midfield.
In a well-travelled career, he was a youth player at top Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven, from where he moved to Willem II and was a team-mate of recent Tangerines signing Frank van der Struijk.
After five years there, he switched to NAC Breda, before going on to try his luck at several clubs around Europe.
Janse had a spell in the Spanish Second Division with CF Cordoba before heading east to Georgia to play for Dinamo Tbilisi.
For the past two seasons he has been in Italy with Serie B side Ternana Calcio but left during the summer.
Although the transfer window has now closed, as a free agent he could sign for Dundee.
Before that happens, manager Paul Hartley will want to have a look at him.
If Dundee are able to get clearance for him, that could happen as early as tonight’s Development League clash with Hamilton Accies at Links Park, Montrose.
The Dark Blues have been searching for someone who can play on the right side of the defence since Paul McGinn left for Chesterfield just after the end of last season.
That slot has been filled so far this term by youngster Cammy Kerr but the manager would like competition in that area.
Tom Hateley, who signed up last week, could provide that but both he and Paul believe his strongest position is lies in midfield.
Tickets for Sunday’s home clash with Aberdeen are now on sale from the ticket office at Dens.
