Blether with Brown: Dundee still looking for members League Cup-winning squad to attend dinner

Dundee FC commercial manager Stephen Flight says planning is well advanced for the dinner.

“We’ve been planning this dinner to mark the anniversary of the 1973 League Cup win for many months now,” he said.

“Since launching it a few weeks ago, it has sold incredibly well.

“The club has been delighted with the response we’ve had from that squad, and many have intimated they will be delighted to attend and share their memories of that game.

“There are, however, a couple of names we are struggling to get in touch with, and wondered whether any Blether with Brown readers would be able to assist?

“We have not been able to get in touch with Billy Semple, John Gray and George Stewart.

“Also, we are trying to find Alex Pringle and Mike Hewitt, who we believe both currently now reside in the USA.

“Any information or contact details for any of these former players would be very much appreciated.

“It has been our last major trophy success and, therefore, we feel it important that as many of that team as possible can attend to allow the supporters to pay homage to their achievement.

“Peter Lorimer, the former Leeds and Scotland legend, and himself a proud Dundonian, is booked as main speaker.

“Scottish national team boss Gordon Strachan (who many people may remember was a young member of that Dundee squad) will also be in attendance.

“As I said, tickets have sold extremely well, and we are delighted to announce the event is now completely sold out.

“If any supporters want to be added to the waiting list, they can get in touch by calling the DFC Commercial Department on 01382 884450 or email commercial@dundeefc.co.uk

The event takes place in The Invercarse Hotel, Perth Road, Dundee, on Sunday, December 15 exactly 40 years to the day.

Tickets are priced at £40 per person, which includes a three-course meal.
