Dundee’s ambitious plans to play a “home” Premiership match in the United States against Celtic are on hold.
Courier Sport understands that the proposed glamour game has become tangled up in red tape with lawyers currently working away behind the scenes.
Time is now running out to overcome any obstacles with the game supposedly pencilled in for March 18 at Philadelphia Eagles’ Lincoln Financial Field Stadium.
Back in June, SPFL head Neil Doncaster revealed the governing body had not received any application to play the game in States – however, he insisted it was an idea worth exploring.
He said: “If there is a way of taking the game overseas, then we’re duty bound to look at it.
“Who knows? We need as many people as possible to be watching the Scottish game.
“If we get an application from any of our clubs who might want to do that, then I think we’d have to look at it with an open mind.
“It’s certainly an exciting concept. We know there’s huge interest in North America in Scottish football and I can see why that might be attractive.”
