Dundee are understood to be running the rule over Dutchman Jens Janse.
The 30-year-old is a recognised full-back but can also play in midfield and is a free agent after leaving Italian Serie B side Ternana Calcio in the summer.
Janse has also played for Dutch teams Willem II and NAC Breda as well as Spanish side CF Cordoba and Georgian outfit Dinamo Tbilisi.
Meanwhile, Dark Blues keeper Scott Bain has not pulled his punches in his assessment of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock at Dens.
It was Dundee’s third stalemate in succession with the goalie admitting: “Let’s not beat around the bush, Saturday’s result was rubbish.
“We need to be beating teams like Kilmarnock if we want to achieve a top-six finish.
“We were dominant throughout the game but there’s no doubt we have to be more clinical in front of goal.”
