Dundee have received a boost with the news that skipper Darren O’Dea may be fit to take his place in the side against Aberdeen on Sunday at Dens.
The big centre-half had to leave the field after just 36 minutes of last Saturday’s game with Kilmarnock after suffering a foot injury.
The 29-year-old former Celtic defender left the ground on crutches and was sent for a scan on Monday.
The results have shown that there is no fracture with O’Dea now facing a race against time to lead the Dark Blues out against the Dons.
Dens boss Paul Hartley was already resigned to being without another first-choice centre-half, Kevin Gomis, who will be suspended after being shown a straight red card against Killie.
Dundee chose not to appeal the decision and the Frenchman will miss out against Aberdeen with Julen Etxabeguren his likely replacement.
Meanwhile, experienced Dutch right-back Jens Janse played as a trialist for the Dundee Under-20 side against Hamilton on Tuesday night.
The 30-year-old is a free agent after leaving Italian side Ternana Calcio this summer and Hartley will now weigh up whether to pursue his interest in the player.
