Dundee boss Paul Hartley has revealed his players have been at “finishing school” during the international break.
However, the Dark Blues squad gave etiquette the elbow and instead were concentrating on their sharpness in front of goal.
Hitting the back of the net has been a problem for Hartley’s men recently with just three scored in the last five games.
Now, the manager is hoping all the hard work on the training field will pay off when his side travels to Tynecastle to play Hearts tomorrow chasing what would be just their second league win of the season so far.
Hartley said: “That’s the bottom line – you have to score goals to win any game.
“Hopefully, if we get chances, then we can take them.
“That’s throughout the team, not just the guys who are playing up front.
“Every area of the team has to chip in. We have worked really hard on it since the last game (against Celtic) and hopefully we can now go to Hearts and get a positive result and performance.
“It is a difficult venue to go to as they are strong there but it is one we are really looking forward to.
“It is a great place to play at with a full house and the crowd right on top of you.
“Their fans are usually terrific but we have to go there, try to silence them and have a game plan that will be effective for us.”
One of Dundee’s goal threats is Dutch striker Yordi Teijsse who was quoted in a report yesterday saying he is still struggling to adapt to life in the City of Discovery.
However, Hartley has had a chat with the player and the manager received assurances that he was happy with life in Dundee.
He said: “I spoke to Yordi this morning and he said he was fine.
“I think the first couple of weeks he was struggling which he was on record saying but he is happy now.
“It is obviously different coming from Amsterdam. He is a young man in a different city so it is going to take him time to adjust.
“But where he is living now, there are a lot of other players staying there so he is more at home.
“It took him a while to adjust to everything but he is happy and I have had a good conversation with him.
“I think he did well against Celtic in his first start and hopefully there is more to come.”
Meanwhile, Nicky Low, who has endured a terrible time with injury and illness since he joined the Dark Blues two summers ago, has suffered another setback.
Hartley added: “Tom Hateley is OK after a little illness and his groin is fine.
“Nicky Low has picked up a knock on his ankle and he is a doubt for Saturday.
“It is the same one he had the op on during the summer and he just felt it during training the other day.
“But apart from Nicky, we are close to full strength.”
