One down, two to go. Saturday’s game against Inverness was the first match in a vital triple header that could prove pivotal to Dundee’s season.
Dark Blues boss Paul Hartley all but admitted as much in the build-up to the Caley game with a trip to Kilmarnock next week being followed by the visit of Ross County to Dens.
Dundee successfully negotiated the first hurdle with their 2-1 win over Inverness.
They have definitely played better in recent weeks with Hartley himself admitting his players needed to “win ugly”.
However, I am sure he will accept substance over style any day with the win lifting Dundee off the bottom of the table.
The fact they moved up to seventh with the victory highlights just how crazy the Premiership is panning out this season.
Once again there were plenty of positives for Dundee, none more so than the eye-catching performance of Craig Wighton.
I am starting to run out of superlatives to describe the teenager who is revelling in being given a sustained spell in the team for the first time.
Even when Wighton was making his breakthrough at the tender age of 16, you could see he was a top prospect.
Now though, he has added strength to his undoubted skill and he and Dundee are reaping the rewards.
Again on Saturday though he was on the wrong end of some rough treatment – hopefully officials will begin being as strong as Wighton in terms of making sure he is given proper protection.
