Steve Kean is in the frame to take charge at Dundee.
Courier Sport understands Hibs’ academy director is one of just a few names now being considered to succeed Mark McGhee at Dens Park.
Kean, 54, has a strong coaching pedigree, having worked on the staff at Reading, Fulham, Real Sociedad, Coventry and Blackburn Rovers.
He famously took charge of the latter on a caretaker basis in 2010 after Sam Allardyce, under whom Kean had been first team coach, was sacked.
The appointment was quickly made permanent, but ended in Kean’s resignation in September 2012, after a troubled two years at Ewood Park.
Kean subsequently managed in Singapore and served as assistant manager to former Hibs star Grant Brebner at A-League side Melbourne Victory before arriving at Hibs in November 2021 as academy boss.
Dundee appeared to finally be nearing an agreement with ex-Hibees manager Shaun Maloney late last week, but talks collapsed.
Other names being considered
Jack Ross was also linked with the vacant Dens Park job but dropped out of the running before Maloney’s stint as preferred candidate.
Courier Sport understands Kean is not the only man being considered by Dundee managing director John Nelms and director of football Gordon Strachan, with former Kilmarnock assistant Peter Leven linked with the post on Sunday.
However, the pair hope to move quickly to secure an agreement ahead of pre-season training kicking off later this month.
