Dundee hope to have young midfielder Max Anderson available for Saturday’s season opener at home to Hamilton.
The 21-year-old missed the friendly double-header with Peterhead and Montrose over the past week through injury.
But manager Gary Bowyer says the absence of the Scotland U/21 international at Links Park on Tuesday was precautionary.
The Dark Blues had a number of players missing for the 4-0 victory at Balmoor and 1-1 draw with Montrose.
And Bowyer has given an update on the likes of Jordan McGhee, Jay Chapman and Lee Ashcroft with some positive news on Adam Legzdins’ recovery.
Anderson
Anderson, meanwhile, was in attendance in Montrose in midweek and his manager hopes to have him fit and available when Hamilton arrive at Dens Park on Saturday.
“Max Anderson had a little niggle in his groin on Thursday but trained on Monday,” Bowyer revealed.
“That was his first training after the weekend and playing on astro, we just didn’t want to risk anything.
“Jordan McGhee has a little bit of an ankle injury but nothing that concerns us at this stage.”
Legzdins
Almost certainly missing against Accies will be long-term injured trio Ashcroft, Legzdins and Cillian Sheridan.
All three have been training but no minutes on the pitch in pre-season indicate they are a little distance away from a first-team return.
There has, though, been a step forward for Legzdins as he bids to get over the knee injury that has kept him sidelined since February.
Bowyer added: “Lee Ashcroft is obviously on his way back but Adam Legzdins has been given the green light to push on with his training, which is positive.
“He’ll be a couple of weeks but we’re not going to put any massive pressure on him.”
Jay Chapman
A stranger situation is that of midfielder Jay Chapman, who is yet to meet up with the squad for the new season.
The Canada international joined the Dark Blues in January after leaving David Beckham’s Inter Miami but barely featured last season.
A two-minute cameo in a February derby has been his only appearance at Dens Park before a half-hour showing at Motherwell in a Covid-ravaged squad in March.
Paperwork issues have kept him in North America and it’s not yet confirmed when he might join up with the squad.
Bowyer said: “We are still waiting on Jay Chapman returning from across the water and there have been conversations with him regarding his return.”
