Dundee are stepping up their search for a new striker as the league campaign approaches.
Manager Gary Bowyer confirmed adding to his frontline is a key priority for the Dark Blues over the coming weeks.
They missed out on Tomi Adeloye last week, who scored 11 Championship goals for Ayr United last season, after he joined Swindon Town instead.
After losing Danny Mullen at the end of last season, Bowyer currently has Alex Jakubiak and Zak Rudden to choose from as fit frontmen.
Cillian Sheridan is on his way back from a long-term Achilles injury and trained with the first-team today.
However, Bowyer is in no doubt an extra goal-getter is required.
“I spoke to both Zak and Jak and said we can’t go into a season with just two centre-forwards,” the Dundee boss said.
“We can’t go through a season with just two.
“We are looking for a different type of centre-forward to those two.
“On Saturday, the amount of chances we created was impressive – we just needed to finish them off better.”
When?
After hoping to get Adeloye over the line last week, Bowyer admits it has been back to the drawing board to some extent in their search for a striker.
But he’s hopeful there may be some success before the Championship season kicks off in just under a fortnight.
“It’s an ongoing process,” he added.
“We’ve suffered a couple, which I understand. We can only go so far with our budget.
“Once we reach our limit then the player has a decision to make and if other clubs offer more money they are well within their rights to take that.
“I understand that.
“It’s about us getting the right person.
“Back to the drawing board but we’re hopeful certainly we’ll have new faces in the next week or two.”
