Dundee have a couple of possible new signings “brewing” as manager Gary Bowyer looks to bolster his squad.
The Dens boss, though, admits there may not be any success on that front before the Championship campaign begins on Saturday at home to Partick Thistle.
Bowyer has made it clear he wants another striker to add to his attacking options.
But there won’t be any corners cut to rush in a new face.
“I would like to add a couple more,” he said.
“It’s been well-documented where I feel we need to strengthen.
“It’s all about continuous improvement with the team and sometimes that means in personnel.
“There are a couple possibly brewing.
“Whether we get anything done before this weekend, I’m not sure.
“I’m happy to go with what we’ve got. We want to improve what we’ve got so I’m not going to sign someone for the sake of it.”
Outgoings?
At the start of his tenure, Bowyer said there were no plans to see any of the existing squad leave this summer.
That has not changed with the new boss admitting new sub rules mean a bigger squad is needed.
“There won’t be any heading out,” the Dundee boss confirmed.
“With there being five subs allowed, we’ve got 20 outfield players just now so if we get a couple of injuries we’re starting to get low on numbers.
“Then we’re looking at using the development squad to help out.
“Luckily for us, the squad have been well prepared by the staff here and there are no big issues.
“So there won’t be any outgoings.”
League Cup
Saturday’s 5-1 win over Forfar Athletic sees Dundee head into the weekend clash with Partick on the back of four straight victories.
Qualification through the Premier Sports Cup group stage also saw the Dark Blues earn a seeded spot in Sunday’s last-16 draw.
That saw them picked out for a home clash with League One Falkirk.
“Getting a home draw is brilliant for us especially with it being midweek, it cuts down travelling time,” Bowyer added.
“I know it will be a difficult tie, Falkirk obviously got through their group and they’ll be looking to stop us playing and to get through themselves.
“It will be a good game but right now our attention is on Partick Thistle.”
