Falkirk away is one of Dunfermline’s most difficult fixtures of the season on paper, according to Pars captain Kyle Benedictus.

Though he and his teammates will be approaching it like any other game, he added, even if there is an inescapable “buzz” about the match.

The Falkirk Stadium is approaching a sellout for what is a fierce rivalry off the field.

On the pitch he is urging his fellow Pars not to get caught up in the occasion.

“There’s a buzz going around probably at both clubs just now and it’s something we’re all really looking forward to,” said Benedictus.

“To be in League 1 and these two clubs to generate that much support at games, it shows how big both clubs are.”

Benedictus – who scored a penalty at East End Park the last time the sides met – has the utmost respect for Falkirk manager John McGlynn who he worked under at Raith Rovers.

Defensive solidity

He has led the Pars to the top of League 1, with Edinburgh lurking three points behind in second and the Bairns a further point behind them.

Benedictus has been at the heart of a defence upon which their success so far has been built.

That backline has been reinforced recently by the addition of Sam Fisher to the starting XI.

The Dundee loanee came in for his first start in the 3-0 win at Alloa and has since played all but the closing stages of the defeat to Montrose.

“He’s come in and he’s had to bide his time when he first got here, but he’s come in and slotted in really nicely,” said Benedictus.

“I think the manager had him at Dundee when he was there and you can see the quality he brings.

“It’s what we need at the club, he’s doing brilliantly so far.

Leader

Asked if he is a mentor for Fisher, the Pars captain said it’s something he tries to do for every player on the pitch, regardless of position.

He also knows that different teammates respond better to different feedback.

“Not just Sam, I try my best with every player,” he said.

Listen to Benedictus’ full answer:

“I think that’s one of the things I’ve got.

“My leadership, I can be a leader out there.

“I like to think I know what other people need in games.

“I’ve said it before, some people need a wee pat on the shoulder.

“Some people just need a wee shout or a wee grilling sometimes.”
