Dundee’s Cammy Kerr on celebration ‘pelters’, ‘night and day’ Dark Blues and what happened with Partick Thistle red card

Cammy Kerr’s celebration skills may need some honing but the Dundee full-back couldn’t care less after securing a tremendous three points for his side.

The 76th-minute strike completed a stirring second-half comeback from the Dark Blues after trailing 2-0 at the break.

It cued ecstatic celebrations in the away end and a light-hearted jibe from manager Gary Bowyer over his attempted knee-slide after the game.

“Rightly so! I couldn’t even remember what I did but I’ve seen it back now and I’ll take the pelters,” Kerr said.

“It wasn’t a great celebration but I was probably lost in the moment because it doesn’t happen very often.

“I knew I was having to hit it. Wee Max (Anderson) does brilliantly not only at the goal but in the game when he comes on.

“I thought he was the one who changed it for us. He was absolutely excellent.

“I felt it was going to drop in that area, I hit it and was delighted it went in.

“I think it took a wee nick on the way through.

‘Night and day’

“I’m delighted more importantly for the boys because it shows a lot to come back from where we were at half time.

“It wasn’t an acceptable first half by any stretch of the imagination.

“Everyone talks about how we might have one of the better teams, we’ve good players all over the park.

“But that first half doesn’t resemble that. It wasn’t a Dundee team. We rolled over too easy, we were second to everything, weren’t aggressive in the way we attacked the game.

“That’s something we need to make sure we stop.

“If we play like we did second half, it’s night and day. It’s so different.”

Red card

After Zach Robinson had found the net and Ryan Sweeney forced an equaliser, Kerr was involved in another of the big moments in a rollercoaster of a contest.

Jags defender Aaron Muirhead was shown a red card after he and Kerr battled for the ball in the Partick Thistle net.

“From what I remember I either got headbutted or elbowed,” Kerr recalled.

“But I’ve still taken a booking which I find incredible because I was only going to get the ball to get us restarted to try and get the winner.

“So I’ve not pushed anyone, not raised my hands at all. All I can remember is getting something directed towards me.”

‘Kick-start’

The three points saw Dundee claw back some points on leaders Ayr United after they were held at home to Greenock Morton.

Kerr & Co. are now level on points with the Ton and Raith Rovers in second place with a home fixture against Rovers coming up next.

And Kerr has challenged his team-mates to build on Saturday’s success.

“It’s a step in the right direction. From where we were at three o’clock, we were five points from top. Now it’s three points,” he added.

“It’s a good weekend for us but the league is so tight you can’t go thinking two or three weeks down the line.

“Everything is changing quickly, there’s a lot of inconsistency in teams. There’s no team pulling away with anything just yet.

“We want to make sure we are the ones who go on a run and become the consistent team.

“Hopefully that’s a wee kick-start for us.

Clean sheet record

“People have probably been critical towards Dundee this season. We are five unbeaten.

“We need to improve on our clean sheet record, which I am part of. I’m not trying to shift any blame.

“I think we’ve got a good defence, keeper, midfield unit. I believe we should have more clean sheets.

“We’re scoring goals and as long as we keep doing that then keep it tight at the back then we’ve got a chance.

“It’s up to the group. I could go on all day about how good the individuals are and what characters we’ve got but we’ve got to show it every week.”
