Now is the time for Dundee to grab the bull by the horns in the Championship.
Saturday’s win over Partick was a massive result for them – especially after being two goals down.
That shows they do have a bit about them.
After a stop-start beginning to the season, they still find themselves still within touching distance of the top.
I wouldn’t say Gary Bowyer could count himself lucky to be in such a position but nobody has taken control of the league so far.
It will be another Championship season where a lot of teams will battle away and take points off each other.
It’s an incredibly tight league; only five points separate first and seventh.
All it takes is to win a few games in a row and you’ll shoot up the league.
It’s the same at the other end of the table – just look at Morton.
We (Arbroath) were much-improved on Saturday against Inverness and we’re looking to do just that too.
Dundee were probably everyone’s favourites at the start of the season. Inverness have been top, so have Partick, Ayr too – but they’ve not managed to kick on.
After Saturday’s result, you are probably looking at Dundee to kick on.
But first, they will have to get a result over a resurgent Raith Rovers.
Ian Murray’s men seem to be the in-form team going four unbeaten but the Dark Blues will be looking for a win, especially at Dens.
You can look at Raith and they are another team who has picked up in recent weeks. I think the Championship will continue in this way all the way through.
It was great to see Elliott Parish afforded his chance in goal for St Johnstone at the weekend.
Obviously, I hope Remi Matthews’ injury wasn’t serious but I was delighted for Elliot. I’ve known him from my time at Dundee and he’s a good lad.
It was probably better for him to have been thrown back in against a top-end team like Rangers.
He’s had to sit on the bench a lot with Zander in goal last season and Matthews this campaign, but as a backup keeper you have to be ready to grab the opportunity.
When you are in a game where you are relatively busy, the game will go by quicker – you don’t have time to dwell on things.
You get guys who are happy on the bench when there are two back-up keepers but Elliott will want to play.
VAR is starting to do my box in, with handballs most irritating of all.
It seems to be taking an age to make decisions.
It could be the case that we soon don’t get home until 8pm after a 3pm kick off!
But seriously, some supporters will end up missing their buses or connecting trains home the way things are going just now.
We complained when we didn’t have it. It’s a benefit to have for serious fouls and offsides – but are we maybe using VAR too much?
