Forfar Athletic have confirmed that assistant boss Gary Harkins has left the club, following the departure of Gary Irvine.
Irvine was sacked as Loons boss on Wednesday following the Angus side’s drop to the bottom of League Two.
The club were quick to replace him with Ray McKinnon being appointed on Thursday.
Now, Forfar have confirmed that Harkins as followed Irvine out the Station Park exit door.
The club wrote on their website: “Player-assistant manager Gary Harkins has also moved on in the managerial shake up at Station Park.
“A big thank you is due to Gary for his efforts on and off the field of play over the past 16 months and we wish him well in the future.”
‘Jeebsy’ joined up with his former Dundee teammate and lifelong friend in June 2021.
The 37-year-old came on board as Irvine’s assistant but was also registered as a player.
In total, Harkins made 25 competitive appearances for Forfar. His final game was last weekend’s 4-1 home defeat to Annan, in which he played 75 minutes.
It’s understood new boss McKinnon will take his time in appointing a new number two.
However, goalkeeping coach Wayne Henderson and fitness coach Mark Farrell will remain part of the new regime.
Team news
McKinnon will see his side in action for the first time at Station Park tomorrow when they host SPFL new boys Bonnyrigg Rose.
The Midlothian side recorded a 2-0 win over Forfar on the first day of the season at New Dundas Park.
However, Robbie Horn’s side have struggled in recent weeks and sit just two points above the Loons.
A debut win for McKinnon could see his side pull themselves up to seventh spot.
To do so, they will have to play without key defender Darren Whyte who misses out through injury.
Skipper Craig Slater faces a late fitness test to determine whether he will be fit to see any action.
