Dundee star Paul McGowan has been quizzed by police over allegations of suspicious betting patterns in a Dark Blues game.
The 35-year-old, along with former team-mate Leigh Griffiths, was arrested on Thursday as part of a Police Scotland probe.
It came after concerns were flagged over betting patterns in a Premiership game between Dundee and Hearts on December 18 last year.
Both McGowan and Griffiths were booked in the match.
Pre-planned police operation
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Following a pre-planned police operation on Thursday, three men, aged 37, 35 and 32, were arrested in the Bothwell, Bonnyrigg and Airdrie areas in connection with an investigation into alleged gambling incidents in sport.
“All three men were released without charge pending further inquiries.”
The Dens Park club have confirmed they are helping police with their probe, while the Scottish FA offered no comment.
Dundee FC ‘aware of investigation’
A statement said: “Dundee Football Club are aware of the ongoing Police Scotland investigation as reported in the media this morning.
“The club will support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.”
McGowan has played for Dundee since signing from St Mirren in 2014.
Griffiths left Dundee in January.
