Lewis Spence has become Neil McCann’s third summer signing for Dundee, with the Dens Park boss challenging the surprise arrival to follow Cammy Kerr’s example.
The 21-year-old midfielder was released by Dunfermline at the end of last season, having played just six times in 2016-17 for the Pars, so the fact that he’s now going to make a jump up a league has come from leftfield.
McCann knows the player well, however, having worked with him when he was assistant manager at East End Park and believes he can get the best out of him.
Spence had two loan spells with Brechin City last year and has signed a one year deal with the Dark Blues.
McCann said: “I’ve seen enough of Lewis in my time at Dunfermline that suggests I wanted to give him a chance here at Dundee. I want to work with him to try realise the potential that I saw in him.”
“He knows he is going to have to work extremely hard to force his way into my first 11 but if you take our new vice-captain Cammy Kerr for example, it shows how far you can go in a short space of time with drive and determination given the opportunity.”
