Should a stalemate have been a checkmate for Dundee against Kilmarnock? Probably not.
After going in front early on, the Dark Blues failed to take advantage against a nervy Killie side that were there for the taking.
The home fans were on their backs from kick-off and the half-time whistle was greeted with a barrage of boos from the Rugby Park faithful.
However, Dundee failed to create anywhere near enough clear-cut chances and were incredibly thankful to see Kris Boyd miss his late golden opportunity.
As manager Neil McCann alluded to afterwards, Dundee’s exertions last midweek against Celtic in the Betfred Cup had undoubtedly taken their toll on his side.
The plastic pitch at Kilmarnock is also a big factor with the ball behaving badly at times.
The Dark Blues are also missing a big focal point in attack at the moment with Sofien Moussa and Marcus Haber out injured.
At the other end, McCann will no doubt be disappointed that his side once again failed to keep a clean sheet.
However, all things considered, a draw on the road was a decent result for Dundee against a side simply desperate to win.
Another thing that struck me on Saturday was just how young this Dark Blues side is now.
A-Jay Leitch-Smith was the senior citizen in the starting line-up at 27 while the average age of the back four was just 21.
If they can all continue to grow together as players, the future is definitely bright for Dundee.
