Dundee boss Neil McCann is looking for his side to achieve something they have failed to do in four meetings so far this season with Motherwell – secure a victory.
The Dark Blues travel to Fir Park this afternoon boosted by last week’s dramatic late win over St Johnstone at Dens.
However, the Steelmen have won three and drawn once against Dundee this season in league and cup.
McCann is adamant his players did not receive the rewards they deserved from their displays and now he is looking for them to right that wrong and ease further towards safety.
He is also hoping they will be helped by a large travelling support similar to the one that roared his side to victory last season in what was McCann’s first game in charge.
The manager said: “It was massive last week and a huge three points but nothing is decided yet.
“But what it did was give us something really positive to build on this week against a very good side.
“They have had a brilliant season so it will be a really tough game.
“Our games with Motherwell have been tight affairs.
“We have actually played exceptionally well against them and come away with nothing.
“So we are obviously going to try to put that right.
“I have said the same this year as last season at the split that I want five wins.
“It was always going to be hard but if you get yourself clear, then great.
“It is all about trying to win the next game and that’s against Motherwell.”
He added: “The fans were brilliant at Motherwell last year.
“I couldn’t believe the numbers that came down to Fir Park in what was my first game in charge.
“I am really hoping they do the same again.
“The support last Saturday was vital because when we conceded that late equaliser, it would have been easy for them to put their heads down and maybe get on the backs of the players but it was great to send them away with a late winner.
“It’s not often we have done that, send them home with three points from here.
“But they stayed with us and I am really looking forward to seeing how many travel through to support us at Motherwell.”
The Dundee fans have been snapping up season ticket books in their droves this week with McCann and his players taking time to personally thank some of them with personal phone calls.
The manager admits it has been great to speak with so many supporters and he believes the sales show they are buying into his vision for the club.
He said: “I think the reaction over the last week to season ticket sales has been terrific and exceptional.
“If 1,000 people are going out to buy season ticket books this early when there is nothing decided, it shows there is a belief in what we are doing here.
“There is a commitment to the club – and there are a lot of people wanting some personal phone calls and video messages!
“I have spoken to people who have seen the real high times here. It is always lovely to have a couple of minutes with these fans.
“They have been through the good times and they are still supporting us to this day.
“I think it is important for the club to have a connection to the community.
“Everyone seems to have enjoyed it so hopefully even more will buy season tickets and I will be making more phone calls.”
Earlier this week, Dundee midfielder Glen Kamara was linked with interest from Celtic, Rangers as well as English Premier League side Swansea.
However, McCann insisted there had been no contract from any club regarding the former Arsenal youth player.
He said: “I have had no phone calls whatsoever.
“You would have to be blind not to be interested in Glen Kamara if you were a scout of a big club coming up and watching our games. He has been exceptional this season.
“I think he would say himself that it probably wouldn’t have worked out for him at Arsenal.
“Even his loan moves didn’t work out for him but like Jack (Hendry) we have provided him with a platform.
“The way we play has really enhanced him and given him that stage to show how good a footballer he is. He is a fantastic talent.
“Maybe if we had been higher up the league, Glen would have been in people’s thoughts for nominations as I think he has made an impact against every team we have played.”
Josh Meekings is likely to miss today’s game through injury but McCann is hopeful Roarie Deacon will make it.
