Ambitious Vanarama National League side AFC Fylde were the English club that had a £150,000 bid for Ayr United striker Lawrence Shankland knocked back.
The former Queen’s Park and Aberdeen hitman is in demand after scoring nine goals in five games this season to add to the 29 he grabbed for the Honest Men in their title-winning League One campaign.
Dundee were reported to have made a bid for Shankland last week but Fylde, who recently took winger Joe Cardle south from Dunfermline, matched the £150,000 that the Dens Park club were keen to pay.
The bid from the West Lancashire outfit, who played Ayr in a pre-season friendly during a training camp in Scotland, was blocked by the Somerset Park board on Tuesday.
Manager Ian McCall said: “Lawrence remains fully committed to this club as his performance (against Partick Thistle) on Saturday showed.
