Jim McIntyre has targeted getting Dundee off the foot of theĀ Premiership as soon as possible after taking over as manager.
Neil McCann left Dens Park earlier this week after losing seven out of eight league games and Dundee face Livingston and Hearts in the next five days.
McIntyre said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for me at a brilliant football club with a fantastic support and great history.
“It’s a club that traditionally have a really good support, a support who want to be entertained and it’s our job to make sure we get the team picking up points as soon as possible. It’s so important that we try and get off the foot of the table as quick as we can.
“There’s no point looking to the future just now, we have got to concentrate on what’s in front is us and we have two really tough games coming up against the form teams in the league and we know we’re going to have to be at our best.”
McIntyre stated that nothing was confirmed over his backroom team after a “whirlwind 24 hours” and Dundee managing director John Nelms admitted they would tread carefully over an appointment.
McIntyre has a long-standing working relationship with former Dundee striker and assistant boss Billy Dodds, who is unpopular among some fans after voting against the deal that took the club out of administration in 2011 shortly after being sacked.
Nelms said: “The fans have made their voice heard, I’m listening to that voice and we’re taking all things into consideration.
“They do have a long-standing relationship but there are others in the mix as well.
“It’s his team. In this case it’s a unique situation so we will tread lightly.”
