Dundee hit rock bottom in Paisley after going down to a 2-1 defeat in the Premiership basement battle.
They couldn’t have wished for a better start, opening the scoring after just 26 seconds when Ethan Robson drilled home a John O’Sullivan cross.
St Mirren levelled on 13 minutes, though, with Duckens Nazon’s cross helped over the line by Danny Mullen.
The Dark Blues enjoyed the bulk of the possession in the second period but were caught sleeping when a long diagonal ball was hit beyond the back post, it was sent back into the danger area by Anders Dreyer and Brad Lyons powered a header into the net.
The result leaves Jim McIntyre’s men, who have now lost five in a row, two points adrift of Saints.
The only crumb of good news for Dundee was the return of Andrew Nelson, who was lively up front.
If they are to survive they are going to need him to get back on the goal trail – and quickly.
