Dundee are now serious contenders to sign Stevie May.
When Dark Blues manager James McPake first admitted that he was interested in the Aberdeen forward, there was a belief that they were behind several clubs in the queue.
Courier Sport understands now though that the picture has changed and that there is a realistic chance that the former St Johnstone hero could end up at Dens Park rather than McDiarmid Park.
Dundee United remain in the race, with Ross County also keen.
Boosting Dundee’s hopes of persuading May to join them is the fact that McPake’s assistant, Dave Mackay, is the player’s old captain with Saints.
McPake didn’t speak about individual targets yesterday but reported that progress is being made on the signing front.
“We’re getting closer and closer to a couple,” he said.
“Certainly by the end of the week we’re hopeful, but that’s not to say if two come in, three come in, we’ll stop.
“We’re happy with who we’ve got but we certainly know we need a few to add.
