Dundee boss James McPake was frustrated at the quality of his team’s display against Cove Rangers in the 0-0 Betfred Cup draw.
The bonus point secured in the penalty shoot-out could yet be important in terms of progression to the knockout stages of the competition but McPake’s immediate reaction was disappointment.
“We certainly lacked any sort of rhythm and any sort of quality,” he said.
“I won’t criticise them on effort and application because it’s been there from day one.
“But on the ball we were poor.
“It’s not a wake-up call because it’s just the start of the season but it was a poor performance.
“The bonus point might end up being important but we’re talking about the performance and it wasn’t good enough.
“We’re back at Dens on Saturday against Peterhead. We’ve been eager to get back in front of our own fans. The performance needs to be better and I’m sure it will be.”
Cove boss Paul Hartley said: “My players have got to be happy with how they performed. We more than matched them.”
