Lawrence Shankland has received his second Scotland call-up, meaning he will miss a league game for Dundee United.
The prolific striker, who scored for the Scots against San Marino last month, was named in Steve Clarke’s latest squad for the forthcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Cyprus and Kazakhstan.
The first of those fixtures clashes with United’s Championship game against Queen of the South (November 16).
Neilson was expecting the news.
He said yesterday: “I hope Lawrence is in it and I think he will be.
“It would be a hindrance for us because it means he will miss the Queen of the South game but you want your players involved at the highest level.
“Lawrence did enough in the last (Scotland) game – and with us since – to deserve another call-up.”
Meanwhile, Scott McKenna, Steven Naismith and Liam Cooper are all back in the squad.
