Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has confirmed that the Premier League club are “on the verge” of signing Scott Banks from Dundee United.
The 18-year-old attacking midfielder, frozen out at Tannadice after informing the club he intends to run down his deal, is set to join the Eagles academy set-up.
Hodgson said: “I know about Scott Banks. I think he is on the verge of joining us, but he is a very young player who Doug (Freedman) knows from Scotland. His first contacts with the club will probably be more on the academy side.
“I haven’t been able to scout him at all, but I know he is a very talented midfield player and the right type we are looking for so it will be nice to welcome him to the club.”
It is understood United will receive a six-figure sum, with potential add-ons to follow should Banks be a hit down south.
