Far from it – the club want to build a team around him. The Tangerines sporting director, speaking on The Courier’s Talking Football podcast, has given his first reflections on the interest in his star striker in the last transfer window. And he also stressed that people automatically assuming that Shankland will be sold in the next window have reached the wrong conclusion. “It’s not in the business plan that we need to sell Lawrence Shankland,” said Asghar. “I would want him here to be part of our group moving forward, to add players to play alongside him. “Yes he does it on the pitch but he’s fantastic off the pitch as well with our developing players and academy players. “He fits in. He’d be very hard to replace. Forget the quality of the player – it’s very hard to replace that type of personality.” To listen and subscribe for free, search for ‘Courier Talking Football’ on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts
