Dundee United goal hero Lawrence Shankland has admitted he found the early end to their title-winning season “frustrating.”
However, striker Shankland – undoubtedly the Tangerines’ star man as they finished top of the Championship – insists they thoroughly deserved to be promoted.
It was a shame for the Scotland striker and his Tannadice teammates that they didn’t get their party on the pitch, with the SPFL vote bringing the curtain down on the season below the Premiership.
However, they did enjoy their now well-reported get-together on Zoom from home.
Shankland said: “Over the last few weeks it was looking, as time went on, more and more likely that they would probably call it to an end.
“It’s frustrating in a way for us because the season we have had, we have done really well. We got ourselves into a right good position.
“We were going into the last eight games, I think, needing three or four wins and that would have got us over the line. That’s probably when everybody was on their game.
“So it was something for us to look forward to but it was probably the only downside of it.
“We need to be pleased with the season we had.
“We got ourselves that far in front and we gave ourselves a real good chance at the end. We were top from week one and, I would say, deservedly won it.”
As for the Zoom shenanigans, Shankland added: “It was the only way we could get in touch.
“I think some of the boys took it a bit more extreme than others!”
