Dundee United have suffered the latest in a series of blows with the news that Jonny Hayes has turned them down in order to rejoin Aberdeen.
The Tangerines lost manager Robbie Neilson to Hearts on Sunday night and are also at the centre of a legal bid by Hearts and Partick Thistle to stop them gaining promotion to the Premiership.
As that weren’t enough, they have now discovered that Irishman Hayes has chosen to head back to the Dons for a second spell after being released by Celtic at the end of last season.
The 32-year-old wide man will become the Pittodrie team’s first summer signing subject to a medical.
Hayes made 206 appearances for Aberdeen in his first spell and helped the club to League Cup success in 2014 before moving to Celtic Park three years ago.
