James Norwood remains a high priority transfer target for Dundee United.
Courier Sport understands the Tannadice club are still working on a deal to bring the 29-year-old to Scotland on loan from Ipswich Town, even though the gap between the Scottish and English league seasons starting means there are a lot of moving parts.
Norwood scored over 80 goals for Micky Mellon when the pair worked together at Tranmere Rovers.
The 30-year-old is on a long list of possible attacking recruits for United but the Tangerines haven’t made contact with Rangers and Murphy is expected to have other options.
And rumours in Dundee that ex-Dens Park hero Greg Stewart is also being lined up for a move from Rangers to United are without substance.
Meanwhile, United have yet to receive any bid – or notification of an intention to bid – for star striker Lawrence Shankland.
