Dundee United have released striker Robbie Muirhead, the deal being done “by mutual consent.”
Muirhead (20) joined the Tangerines from Kilmarnock in the final few minutes of last year’s January transfer window for a fee of around £150,000, just hours after the Tangerines had agreed to sell Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong to Celtic.
The hope was that the Scotland under-19 frontman would help ease some of the pain caused by the departure of that pair to Parkhead.
However, it didn’t quite work out for Muirhead and he started only seven matches for the Tangerines, scoring twice in that time.
He was allowed to go on loan to Partick Thistle in September before returning to Tannadice at the turn of the year.
United’s statement read: “Dundee United Football Club and striker Robbie Muirhead have today parted company by mutual consent.
“The club thank Robbie for his service and wish him success for his future career.”
